Position Announcement: Japanese Language Lecturer Pool at UC Santa Cruz

The Department of Languages and Applied Linguistics at the University of California, Santa Cruz (UCSC) invites applications for an ongoing pool of lecturers who may be appointed to teach Japanese language courses. A reasonable estimate for an appointment to teach a standard five-credit course is $8,531- $24,005. Salary is commensurate with qualifications and experience. Appointments are contingent on the hiring unit’s instructional need and the availability of funding. This recruitment is valid for initial appointments made in fall quarter 2024 through fall quarter 2025. Initial appointments with effective dates outside of this recruitment period will require an alternative open recruitment.

Requirements include: a Master’s degree (or equivalent foreign degree) in Japanese or related field. Candidates are expected to have native or near-native proficiency in Japanese and have at least one year of independent teaching in the Japanese language at the university level. The hiring unit will not sponsor employment-eligible immigration statuses for this position.

4)      Statement of Contributions to Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion – Statement addressing your understanding of the barriers facing traditionally underrepresented groups and your past and/or future contributions to diversity, equity, and inclusion through teaching and professional or public service. Candidates are urged to review guidelines on statements before preparing their application.
